I traveled to Sri Lanka last December for 10 days and want to share with you some experiences there. Here is my first post for the Sri Lanka series ;). Enjoy!

"Is backpacking Sri Lanka safe?" is one of the many questions I received from ones who are intending to travel to Sri Lanka. I would like to answer your question as below:

- Regarding the robbery, theft, pickpocket,... rates: Within my 10 days there, never experienced this problem or seen others got robbed or pick-pocketed. Sri Lanka is quite safe for you to travel there. However, wherever you go, just be careful with your belongings. Don't go out after 7 pm (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Colombo are much safer and you don't need to worry about the time).

- For you men traveling alone or in groups: no worried about safety like girls, but you should be careful when renting a room to avoid to pay more for a bad room.

- A group of female friends, or especially solo female travelers: ​​to be very be careful. My appearance is totally different from the natives, then, it couldn't be avoided the eyes of local guys staring at you wherever you go. Bus harassment  occurred frequently, I took the buses 4 times, I got it 2 times. Besides, most of the guys there offered to help you with purposes. Then you shouldn't talk to male strangers there especially avoid looking at their eyes. And if they offer to help you, please consider well. If you want to ask something, go to the shop. Do not go out after 7 pm if not in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Colombo
- Sellers offer higher price for traveler: I also have not seen this case during my trip to Sri Lanka, it is advised to Google "living cost in Sri Lanka" to have a view about their price range there.

- Terrorism ...: I have not encountered in Sri Lanka, most of Muslims are around Kandy, but stil it's kinda peaceful, didn't see any problems yet.
In Sri Lanka, people are very friendly, you can take the photos of anyone, especially kids like to be photographed too.
